Heel Spurs

Heel spurs are bony growths that form on the underside of the heel bone, often as a result of long-term strain on the foot muscles and ligaments. They are commonly associated with plantar fasciitis but can exist on their own.

What are the symptoms?

Symptoms of Heel Spurs:

  • Sharp or stabbing pain in the heel, especially when standing after rest

  • Tenderness and inflammation in the heel area

  • Pain that worsens with prolonged standing, walking, or running

  • A visible or palpable bump under the heel (in some cases)

  • Discomfort may ease after movement but return later

How Can Custom Insoles Help Heel Spurs?

Custom insoles can be highly beneficial for managing heel spurs by providing targeted support and cushioning that reduces pressure on the affected area. Although the spur itself may not always be the direct source of pain, the surrounding soft tissue irritation often is—something custom insoles are designed to address. With proper arch support, they help offload strain from the plantar fascia, one of the key contributors to heel spur development. The full-length Spenco cushioning in custom insoles also absorbs shock and softens impact forces, protecting the heel with every step. By improving foot alignment and reducing repetitive stress, custom orthotics not only ease current symptoms but also help prevent the condition from worsening.
